Discover the Best Walking Streets on Koh Samui - A Friendly Expat's Guide
If you're planning a trip to Koh Samui or already enjoying your time on this tropical island, don't miss one of the most colorful local experiences: the Walking Street night markets. As someone who's made Samui my home, these evening markets are my favorite way to unwind, eat something delicious, and soak up authentic Thai island vibes.
Whether you're into street food, local souvenirs, or just want a fun evening stroll with a cocktail in hand, here's where to go and when.
Maenam Walking Street – Thursdays, 5 PM to 11 PM
Tucked away in the laid-back Maenam area, this Thursday market is full of charm and tradition. Located near the beachfront, the road gets closed to traffic and lined with stalls selling handmade souvenirs, snacks, clothing, and tropical fruits. You’ll also find fresh seafood sizzling on grills, live acoustic music by fellow expats, and pop-up bars with delicious cocktails.
It’s a cozy and authentic place, especially popular among families and long-term travelers looking for off-the-beaten-path things to do on Koh Samui.

Lamai Walking Street – Sundays, 5 PM to 10 PM
The Lamai Sunday Night Market is a local favorite, and it’s perfect for wrapping up your weekend in style. The market sprawls across several streets near Lamai Beach and is known for its vibrant energy, friendly vendors, and wide selection of Thai snacks and souvenirs.
If you’re into street eats like mango sticky rice, fried squid, or fresh spring rolls, this is your foodie paradise. Plus, there’s always something going on — live music, street performers, and even breakdancers.
📍 Location: Fisherman’s Village, Bophut (Coordinates: 9.559623, 100.031482)
Bophut Walking Street (Fisherman’s Village) – Fridays, 5 PM to 11 PM
Friday nights in Bophut are simply buzzing! This is one of the most popular markets on the island and a must-visit during your trip to Koh Samui. Set in the charming Fisherman’s Village, this market stretches along Beach Road with hundreds of stalls selling everything from Thai street food and tropical smoothies to jewelry, beachwear, and art.
You’ll often catch live fire shows, Muay Thai demos, or musicians jamming under fairy lights. The seaside setting makes it feel like a scene from a movie.

Nathon Night Market – Daily, 4:30 PM to 10 PM
f you want a more local, less touristy vibe, head to the Nathon Night Market — open every evening in the island’s main port town. This is where real Thai life meets casual market fun. You can grab fresh seafood, try local desserts, or browse stalls with clothing and everyday essentials.
It’s budget-friendly, chill, and right by the ocean — a great place to watch the sunset and snap some photos.
📍 Location: Nathon town center
Chaweng Night Market – Monday to Saturday, 5 PM to 11 PM
Chaweng is famous for its nightlife, and its night market near the lake is no exception. This place is perfect for sampling authentic Thai street food and international dishes in one go. There’s always something cooking - literally - from sizzling Thai BBQ to sushi, kebabs, and pizza.
Bonus: It’s right next to Central Festival, so you can pair your visit with some shopping in Koh Samui or a movie.
📍 Location: Near Central Festival, Chaweng
Central Festival Market – Wednesdays, 5 PM to 11 PM
This one’s for the shoppers! Held in the parking area of Central Festival, this midweek market blends modern vibes with local flavor. You’ll find fashion, accessories, handmade gifts, and tasty bites all in one place — plus it’s super convenient if you're already in the Chaweng area.
